Lucrum
Ind. started back in 2003 in Vista, CA (just north of
San Diego). Back then we were working on high performance cylinder
heads as a part time business doing a lot of research and development
with valving on piston engines that led to our first patent involving
a idea allowing more efficient flow of gasses within engines at
high RPM's. But then one day June 30th 2005 the owner and inventor
Chris Marsolais was nearly killed in a motorcycle accident. After
nearly 6 months in the hospital and over a year in rehab he has
been left paralyzed from the upper chest down. This took a huge
toll on the company and it went dormant for over a year. But Chris
relied on his savior, and Jesus Christ got him and Lucrum through
hard times. Once Chris got home and to the point he could drive
he had to change his vehicle. At the time Chris had a Chevy Tahoe,
it was a great truck, but he could not get himself or his wheelchair
in or out of it due to its lack of handles and door position.
Chris sold the Tahoe and began looking for a new car, eventually
settling on the Toyota FJ Cruiser. When Chris checked out the
FJ Cruiser he found plenty of handles to hold getting in and out
of the car as well as plenty of room to get his wheelchair in
and out, since the rear doors opened back words. Chris made his
own "drive by wire" hand controls, wheel chair lifts
and other disabled equipment and adapted the car himself after
he could not find any existing disabled equipment that met his
standards of quality and reasonable price. This gave Chris the
idea of getting Lucrum going again, this time making affordable
disabled equipment and outfitting FJ Cruisers for other disabled
drivers.
Chris decided to start taking his FJ through some of the Local
hills for fun. Before he was paralyzed one of his favorite things
to do was to go backpacking though the Sierra Nevada Mountains
with his Father and Brother. Since Chris, now paralyzed, was not
able to hold himself up let alone go backpacking, he decided he
would make his FJ Cruiser into his new "off-road wheelchair"
allowing him to get out like he used to (sort of). Since the FJ
was new, he again could not find products he liked the quality
or prices of that would allow him to do what he wanted with his
FJ. That's when Lucrum started making winch mounts for the FJ
Cruiser and other products. Since then Lucrum has grown from the
part time business it was to a full time operation with products
produced across North San Diego County. Chris is still in therapy
at a place called Project Walk in Carlsbad, CA, and will continue
over the next several years. Recently some friends of Chris started
a organization called www.HelpChrisWalk.org for the purpose of
raising funds and awareness for Project Walk and continuing his
therapy and recovery. No one knows the future and we all will
continue to do our best being ready for each new day with QUALITY,
INTEGRITY, COMPASSION and INNOVATION.
